MapleStory Review
MapleStory is one of the best free online mmorpgs available on the internet. Don’t let the graphics turn you off from the game, as the game is quite addictive. When you first start playing the game, you begin with a short and informative tutorial that teaches you the basics of the game without boring you to death. You start off as a Novice and can choose one of the base starting classes at level 10 or 8, depending on which class you choose to become. The four starting classes are Mage, Warrior, Thief and Bowman.
MapleStory is actually a surprisingly balanced game, as no class is “gimp” or underpowered and no single class is overpowered. MapleStory also understands that it’s difficult to level a mage early game, so the game allows mages to change into their first job at level 8 rather than 10, as they have to pump their intelligence rather than their strength as there is no attribute reset option upon advancing to your first class. Mages are incredibly weak early on in the game, as they can’t cast spells until they actually become a mage, but after they get spells they are the fastest early game levelers.
MapleStory is one of the better mmropgs out there because is the game is very simple. Anyone can start playing the game and get the hang of it within minutes, as it doesn’t have a complex skill system or frustrating controls. You’ll never find yourself not knowing where to go or what to do for a quest as each quest is explained well using as few words as possible. Unlike other MMORPGs, MapleStory has surprisingly good translations and there are no grammatical or obvious spelling mistakes in the game.
One major complaint about the game is that after you hit level 40 or so, grinding becomes a huge chore. It seems that the amount of XP that you need to level grows exponentially as you level, making leveling extremely slow. Additionally, when you die at higher levels, you can lose lose over an hour’s worth of experience which can be extremely frustrating. Aside from the slow leveling, MapleStory is one of the better MMOs out there and is definitely worth a download.

I would say another con to this game is the amount of bots on it :/ I could level effectively as the bots would keep stealing all my kills.
boring… i couldnt go over lvl 31 all you do is grind.and the quest r boring. one fun thing though i was an assasin and i ks people a lot.

Maple Story rocks i have lvl 39 wizard (ice/lightning) and lvl 32 Bandit and i never stop having fun! Also lvling got really easy since they added the monster carnival(CPQ). It really was pretty easy to lvl before any way. Al you have to do is the other Party Quests. Maple Story is super fun and easy i think and everyone should try to play it at least once. It looked dumb but was really fun and addicting.

Maple story is the best game in the world and I aprrove it for everyone in the world =D
it can be addictive game if you have friends (real friends) playing
there. They have lots of stuff like party quests, monster carnival, bosses like zakum and horntail and many more.
But the leveling is quite slow and (a bit) boring while grinding.
Anyway, slow leveling avoid us to level fast. (look at cabal online and see how many ppl reach maximum level now). But still, i don like the hard leveling system.
i would recommend playing the global version first, and then looking on the internet for private servers as it is much more fun because of the hightened exp, money and item drop rates, plus there are no bots

The Lvling system tho, is ridiculous. its a HUGE grindfest, yes i know,”do some PQs to lvl then nub!”, but doing that for hours gets boring. its a fun game to hang out and meet up with friends on tho.
unless u have time for endless PQs or grinding, dont even think about getting high lvl.
the general community is shit. u are labeled as a “noob” VERY VERY easily, this makes it kinda hard for alot of people who are new to the game. The KSing by higher lvls is also VERY annoying, be prepared to get you kills stolen if ur not completely alone in the area or not a high lvl.
Overall. For people wanting to play a serious MMORPG with a good lvling system, i dont recommend this game. But for those who just want a good time with friends, i recommend it.

Well, I played through this summer, I liked, but I only made 30 lvls in 1 month of constant playing everyday) I hate to be Ksed and to be threated like a noob often. I would like to play a high level acc but you can’t buy MS accounts, its forgiven.. Well I say: play as long As you like it and don’t force yourself to play it because it’s kinda addictive.

I’ve also played this game for quite a while (main is lv 60), and I can say this is a great game for newbies to the whole mmorpg genre. And it can get pretty addicting. But as said leveling is REALLY slow. -_- It took me like 4 months of 6hour a day playing to get my main to 60. It’s very painful. A great starter game, just dont expect to get to your 3rd job advancement (level 70)that easily

XD ya i played it with a friend who was addicted to the point he had his parents playing, sad part is his dad was higher lvl than him.. lol i like the idea that u can trade in ur game items for cs currency, its a great idea and should b done with more games but yes the grinding is RIDICULOUS!!!!!! unless u plan to bot or grind til ur using a walker to leave ur computer chair dont waste ur time with it, if u want a 2d mmorpg i would recommend pi story, its still in open beta but its showing promise, same play-style involving u controlling ur characters every action, none of the click and kill grinding and ur almost always with a party full of lvl hungry and quest hungry people. not to mention it has depth perception with maple story its like playing as a cyclopes, wat is this? mario with weapons? gimme a break..
It is very addictive at first. But how people manage to get above even 70 in this game is beyond me. My main is 55, and that’s it. I quit after 3 months of playing. And even then I had maybe 4 days worth of nonstop playing. (No I didn’t play for four days straight)
But seriously, it is fun, it’s addictive, most players enjoy it up until maybe 30+ then drop it. I don’t regret playing it though, I just don’t understand how someone could really stay until past lv.100.
It’s real saving grace though is it’s community. You can literally just talk to some people and instantly become friends. You don’t need to know them in real life, jus talk about random crap and have fun. Come to think of it… Maple is like a glorified IM/forum. I know alot of games I’ve played, you walk past a player and get no response
It is a very addictive game and everyone shiould try it even though it might get [boring] (Key word Boring) but yet it ahs a very big community you sould DEFENTLY TRY IT!
Yeah Maple was cool it first and extremely addicting but Just around the lvl 30s it gets so hard to lvl any more and I dropped it also (my cleric was 36 bandit around lvl 22) but there is a lot of people so be prepared be called a noob and get your kills stolen but other than that is an ok mmo. just don’t invest to much time in it.
Played it since open beta, and bored me out after about 3 years.. o,o… When Id go download it again right now, id probably turn brain-dead after 10 minutes of grinding.. 1 lvl at lv 65-70 or so = about 10 hours.. of griding..

Game is cool, very much fun. Gringing is a MAJOR problem. I’ve played for over 3 years over a combination of maplesea (the south east asain server) and maple global. I had a level 43 bandit and 2 40 Ice lightning mages.( I played almost every day) Game was very fun except for the grinding aspect. You can make so many friends in such a short time period.
The “pros” are basically like gods in the game and are the people that are age 40 living in their mom’s basement, and unless you seriously have no life you won’t make it very far.
As other people said yeah the cash shop thing is a major problem too. You gotta pay about 3$ for a 2x exp card that only lasts like 4 hours.
Overall I give it a 8/10.
P.S. If your wondering why grinding is rediculous, after level 30 stuff gives you about .001%-0.003% exp per kill and stuff takes a few seconds to kill.

How arduous is the leveling in this game! I wasted my entire summer playing till level 93. In retrospect, I can’t say I’ve gained anything, save the fact that I’ve acquired an inconceivable level of endurance… I perceive that this game is an utter waste of time. Mindless training, only to advance to the next level to train once again in a perpetuating cycle. You simply advance to garb yourself in more exquisite clothes, to show off your attire to others around. You can’t pull a “PVP” with other people; that absolutely kills off the joy in the game for myself.
I played this game for 3 years, and I now regret it.
Leveling is horribly slow, and if you don’t like your character after you get it to 70, then you’ve wasted either a month or years in some people’s cases.
There is way too many people with bad grammar, assholes and idiots.
NX users get an advantage with almost everything, contradictory to what Nexon/Wizet stated back in ‘06.
I suggest that you only play this game if you don’t care about what others think and if you want to waste hundreds to thousands of dollars.
In the time I played it, I managed to get to level 71 once, and 53 a few times.
The GMs are rarely active, though they do a half decent job of banning hackers. Scammers and NX whores rule the game, along with inconsiderate assholes who are only your friends for training to get to the top.
One of my best friends in the game only wanted me for his own character’s good, and once I sold my priest I made(which is illegal in their ToS), he called me a fag and told me to never talk to him again.
This may be the best MMO, but Nexon does a shitty job of keeping out hackers/scammers/harassers and idiots. They constantly have to extend patches/server checks by hours, and may fuck up constantly.
I feel like a fag for playing this game, though it is fun when you’re a higher level(I moved to some pservers and actually had fun + became a GM).
If you like this game, I suggest you go to a private server if you think Nexon is bad, then you’ll see how good of a job they do compared to the 12 year old who is running the private server you’re playing.
The problem I see with Maple Story is that…it has no backstory…Whatsoever.

ooooh man dont even get me started on maplestory, the thing about it is most quests are super long, i played for 3-4 weeks maybe to get to lvl 30, after about 2 weeks i was lvl 32……WTF!!!!
the only way to get good lvl ups after lvl 30 is to do monster carnival but guess what…. “NOONE WANTS TO PARTY WITH A LVL 30 NOOB!!” so that killed my dreams of advancing further into the game. Oh and by the way THE ITEM MALL IS A RIP OFF!!!

This game is addicting. One time, i quit cause I thought i had better things to do, but i couldnt quit. I dont know what makes it addicting, but it is. New pirate expansion, but pirates arent that great…

The good part about this game is thatt its fun for all ages. The leveling is kinda easy until around level 7x+.
I think Thieves and Bowmans has one of the most graphic moves that inspire you to keep playing. It gets boring when no one goes on. This game was fun when all these overused NX cards came out. Lol i give it a 4.7/5 :]
Bladedrag, there are 2 different types of item mall in this game. a Regualar Nexon Cash Shop which most things dont cost as much as 35$ because the highest is 30$ which gives you 35 gachapon or whatever. Then the second item mall is called the Maple Trade System. Gamers put in their own items to sell for NX. But yeah some of the items in the game are rip off. This game is usually played and entertained from ages 10-14 Lol After that its bull.

In maplestory leveling takes a lot of time.
level 1-10 takes over 3 hours - without any breaks, imagine higher levels… The higher level you get the more time you waste leveling. All you do in maplestory is kill monsters level , kill more monsters, level more…
But there’s one good thing in maple story. The community is very nice and its quite popular. If you want to meet nice friends i suggest maplestory. If you want to play maple story then later on you will find out that you’ve wasted your time.

I suggest for all players who are sick and tired of the hard grinding and shit exp, play the singaporean version! It took me about 8 hours to level up a new character i made to level 15 only by training at henesys hunting ground 1. I have played global version and it disgusted me! Really hard exp gaining and its extremely hard to level up you’re character by training to level 11!

that video … i recon either private server or… hes really old.. he probably woulda started at age 15 (when lvl 90) and end up age 23 (lvl 100) it takes that long
Maplestory is quite exciting and boring. Leveling is SLOW and you get bored after millions of pq’s. However there are many character classes, builds, equips, and skills. Many features in Maplestory that I think are cool are the party quests, cash shop, and you can get married! Marriage is just for NX. Nothing really special but I just thought I would bring it up. =D
For those who want to play this…it gets hella addicting. It actually had me glued to my computer for hours every day, but now I regret doing that. Until private servers came out I played this shit like 8 hours a day sometimes…I feel like a dumb faggot.
Well the good thing about this game is that if you meet the right people, they give you items, (in this case i got tons of level 50 70 80 and 90 items from this really nice dude) but most people are complete douche bags. Don’t expect to find a nice person that easily in this game.
Grinding is nuts. For an average person who spends 2 hours a day on a computer only playing maplestory, it would take at least a month to get to level 40. After 40 it gets harder and harder and by level 60 you get 0.01% a kill. Clerics are the fastest levelers since they can mob the undead, but other than that the exp is completely horrible and it’s a waste of your time if you’re any other class than a mage. NX messed up the game after 2x EXP cards came out, and Gachapon cards (cards you buy for real money that give you items in the game, like a guaranteed lottery). One card would cost 1k NX (1 dollar), and it has a chance of getting you…from 1,000 mesos to 20,000,000 mesos. Parties still don’t give that much exp. even if you do party quests, they still don’t give you much. After level 70 when there aren’t anymore party quests, it’s pointless grinding and you really waste your time. Just find a private server with decent rates to your liking. I’ve played a server with rebirth that has 20,000x EXP rates, and itw as hella fun. I got to level 200 over 20 times in a few days without even playing that much, and It was really fun since you got to use skills from other classes as well. In any case, if you really wanna play this game dont’ even bother playing the global version because it’ll bore the shit out of you and suck you into it until you’re a fat bastard sitting in front of the computer who can’t even walk out of the chair without help. You’ll lose your life. I quit this crap and now I got a perfect life.
Anyway….just play a private sever. Go to xtremetop100.com for private servers. Scroll all the way through to even 200, because there are some darn good servers out there at that low of a rank. Good luck you guys!~
