Albatross18 Reviewed
Albatross18 is the title of the English version of the Korean game PangYa. Why they felt the need to change the name, I cannot say. But what I can say is that Albatross18 is a pretty straight forward golfing game with functional controls and menus. Your initial character choices are very limited. There is only one class, the Scout, available to new players. Later, as you earn more of the in-game currency, you’ll be able to unlock additional character classes, but most clothing and other visual customization can only be purchased through the cash shop.
Unlike Shot Online, there is no town or non-golfing area in Albatross 18. You’ll either be playing a game or staring at menus. This can be either an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on what you’re looking for in a golfing MMO. Albratross18 is a straight forward golfing game with fewer frills than Shot Online. The tutorial is simple and short, which is a bonus since it ensures most people will actually complete it. I found the course designs more attractive than those in Shot Online but the game in general is more cartoony, so it, again, depends on what your preference is.
There are several game modes which include the standard VS mode, tournament, and a “Family Play” option where multiple people can take turns on the same account and computer (this is very convenient if a family wants to play together). I don’t see non-golf fans having much fun in Albtross18 (or Shot Online for that matter), but for the golf fans out there, you now have two great, free choices! Play both and see which you prefer, but for the casual player, Albatross18 is the winner.
