Astro Empires Reviewed
Astro Empires is an insanely addictive browser based game that you can play casually yet still have a lot of fun. Playing 20 minutes a day is really all you need to do in order to stay ontop of your empire’s finances and macro-management. Forming alliances and conquering vast regions of space either alone or with a guild makes Astro Empires an insanely addicting game.
You start off the game in control of a single planet, and have to build up your planet’s economy in order to gain more credits. You gain credits every hour based on how strong your planets economy is and can use them to purchase upgrades for your buildings or create warships. Each planet can only be upgraded to a certain level before the planet runs out of room to expand on, which forces players to constantly fight each other for control of more planets.
Warships can be used to conquer enemy planets or to defend your own areas. Each planet you control is disconnected from your other planets, making the process of building up each planet’s economy a repetitive chore. The huge list of upgradeable technologies and buildings will keep you constantly hooked, however. The biggest drawback to Astro Empires is the fact that you need to pay monthly in order to control more than 10 planets, which gives players that pay for the game a clear advantage over everyone else.
Astro Empires isn’t really a game that you can sit down and play for hours on end, so it’s much more fun to play the game casually with the 10 planet limit, rather than paying for the game and trying to manage a hundred planets at once. Ten planets may not seem like a lot, but it’s certainly enough to keep you busy. Managing more than 10 planets can become repetitive, so it’s better to join a guild and try conquering the universe with friends rather than trying to macro-manage a hundred planets on your own.
If you defeat an enemy planet’s defenses, the game gives you the option to occupy that planet with your military, allowing you to collect a certain percentage of that planet’s economy each turn, which promotes constant warfare and conquest. Overall, Astro empires is definitely one of the better free online web games and is definitely worth trying.
