Atlantica Online Review

New players are given the option to play on either the Ndoor or GamenGame versions of the game, I highly recommend you leave it on the default ‘Ndoor’ option, as it’s A LOT more popular. Next, players must select a server. Note that new players will not be able to create characters on servers labeled ‘Busy.’ Character creation is a bit different than in most games, instead of selecting a class, players must select a weapon type of which there are 7 choices: Sword, Spear, Axe, Gun, Bow, Cannon, and Staff. Each choice has a different distribution of 5 stats: Str. Int. Dex. Vit. and Def. Each weapon type comes with a short description but its not too difficult to figure out what each one does — staff is the mage class while sword is the main tanking class. Players have relatively few appearance customization options which include 6 hair styles, 3 hair colors, 4 face styles, and 2 outfits.
After character creation players are introduced to the story behind Atlantica as they work their way through the short tutorial. The tutorial does an effective job introducing players to combat and the interface. One of the best features in Atlantica is the Auto-Walk feature which allows players to quickly get to their quest objectives. The whole interface is handled masterfully, the maps are detailed and are based on real world locations. Players can explore Asia, the Middle East, and Europe either on their own or by following the long quest line which leads players across the globe. But what sets Atlantica apart from other fantasy MMORPGs is the turn based battle scenes where players control multiple characters at once. Atlantica accomplishes this multiple character system through mercenaries that can be hired. The character players create is their main one but as this main character levels, he or she can recruit a growing number of mercenaries. Its important to have a varried mix of characters for the end game but there seems to be a strong bias towards melee classes early on. I found my spearman and swordsman significantly out damaging my ranged characters.
When I first read about Atlantica I thought it would be a slow paced game because of the turn based combat system but boy was I mistaken. Atlantica Online is one of the most fast paced MMORPGs I have ever played. Combat is brisk, players can command multiple characters to attack at once and a short time limit on turn length keeps everyone on their toes. Oddly, most monsters don’t attack on their turn which helps the game speed but makes the game incredibly easy. Experience rates are high which means players will level up rapidly, though with a level cap of 100 and multiple characters to train, players won’t max out their group any time soon. There are always plenty of quests to do and even though they are not very interesting, they help keep the player focused.
Atlantica Online has very in depth PvP and Guild options. Players can participate in PvP leagues to win fame and fortune or form powerful guilds to conquer and manage cities. And for the more detailed oriented, by repeatedly battling the same monsters players can unlock journal entries about them which displays their stats and loot drop tables. Since battles only occur when players voluntarily click on monsters on while wondering, players are generally free to explore the world and avoid getting into battles. Even at release, Atlantica Online is one of the largest and and in depth free MMORPGs on the market. Even if you hate turn based RPGs, give Atlantica Online a try.

looks tight! im going to download this
I downloaded this not expecting much as i dont usually like turn based combat and really expected the worse but was willing to give it a try it turns out this game is pretty much a blinding little game with huge quests and pretty graphics and a huge friendly community i recomnd even if your sceptical to download and give it a try trust me its worth it!
lol, the battle entry sequence (the shattering glass) is stolen from final fantsy xD
Wow… It looks very fun and it Goetian says its a friendly community i might give it a try! This may mean i have to uninstall Perfect World. Decisions decisions decisions…
im mad…i download this game and and my grapic card suks i wanna get a new comupter!!!!!
ugh…4hrs to dl this game. hope its all worth it!
ugh… i lag in this game
Great game and definitely worth anyone’s time! (Especially if your an FF fan) The fighting system is different than most MMORPG’s, it’s very enjoyable and not the same old hack and slash.
if you have a crappy comp, dont bother playing it! i learned it the hard way… curse you lag..
it does really feels like ff XD
bob you could always alter the graphic settings in Alantica to a lower standard to reduce lagging or try 1 of the not so busy servers maybe
best free to play mmorpg ever
Well this is something new to me… I can’t say I’ve ever been a turn-based freak and I’m not used to the time-limit. But I downloaded it and gave it a try. I haven’t got much into it due to some annoying lag. Lag while moving around does not bother me, but in a battle with a time-limit. *eeps* Its fast paced, has beautiful graphics even on very low settings, and from the little I’ve seen, the scenery is nice. I hope to annihilate lag so I can play this effectively. Its a great game and I agree with the review, try it. You can always uninstall later.
Instead of a turn based like this it cud hav used a similar style as Tales of Phantasia type games along with the graphics it alrdy has. (look up on youtube if u wanna noe what im talking bout)
i would hav defenitely played it if it had that
if you think the game is easy you obviously haven’t played much of the game. there’s a HUGE jump in difficulty starting at lvl 50. its not as bad before that. by lvl 70, bosses are dealing 1000 dmg a hit and shadow dungeon bosses deal twice as much.
Haha i quit in the middle of my download last time. I actually gunna download this time =P
Yeah give it a go, whoever said they were deciding on uninstalling Perfect World for it, do it. I’ve been playing PW for ages now, doesn’t compare to this.
This game has alot going for it the only problem I have is the lag(then again im on a laptop) Definantly recommend this one 9/10
This is a very good free-to-play mmo. Its pretty, well paced, and provides interesting decisions. The economic system is very interesting and actually functions much better than much higher profile mmo’s. Worth a try for anyone interested by the genre. But as mentioned, the game code must be sub-optimal, because you really should be able to play on a lesser computer (its not that flashy!). But even with all the graphics options turned down an older computer won’t cut it.
Is this game only Japaneese?
lol i loved the FF games so i will probably love this game. I like the blood splatter when u thrash the poor little creatures roflmao jk but teh blood is still kinda kool..can someone email me how bad the lag is on a computer with low ram thnx!! email- graydonandrews@hotmail.com (60 % downloading!)
I still dont know….. IS THIS GAME IN JAPANEESE?
I’m downloading tihs as we speak. Slow DL speed though, but not TOO bad. 314 kb/sec is tolerable but it definitely shouldn’t have to take 1 1/2 hours. I have also been playing Perfect World and Cabal Online lately, and honestly I think Perfect World has superb scenery but I have more fun in Cabal. Also Exteel is surprisingly fun. Project Torque = best racing game ever. And Project Powder is alright, but a bit too slow I think. Anyway, I can’t wait to play this game. Hopefully it will run smoothly, but Perfect World runs smoothly so I guess it should.
Cross the game is not in Japanese if it was it would have been stated in the description. The video is somewhat misleading
<..>
=P
Mk.. I’ve played all sorts of games, mainly MMORPG’S Latley.. such as Fiesta, Cabal, WoW, Perfect World, Runescape (a lot of people have <_<), Flyff, ASDA Story, Holic ect ect…
Then I came across this and I literally uninstalled all my other games..
Glad I did ;D
Sure it takes a long a** time to download.. but in my opinion it’s worth it ^^
I may only be in my 40’s (the game not real life ¬_¬ (18 -.-))
But I love the game already =D
So yeah.. rant over.. it rocks…. <_<
And for those who are asking if it’s in english… best translation in a game I’ve ever seen o.O
Download it! ;D 2hours or so (less… but meh) Is nothing compared to the many hours you’ll spend playing it ^^
(Yeah I know…. I’m sad.. =P)
The lag…. there is none for me, sometimes when there is a full 27vs27 battle but overall, unless you have a wooden computer, the game itself does wonderfully
FINALLY, lol ty, Nibiru
hey ive been lookin at this… think i might try it either this or requiem…. how good is the character customization? the review doesent really say anything…..
-> housty:
The character customization really isn’t that in-depth, at least in the start (I didn’t maintain my interest long enough to explore the sub-classes, if that’s what you were referring to — and if so, sorry). You have very, very few face/body/clothes options.
By the way, for anyone wondering about the “strategy” aspect of the battles, don’t go in expecting Final Fantasy Tactics-esque skill sets, grid movement, and job trees.
When in battle, your units, as well as the enemy’s, are arranged in neat little rows. You don’t actually move any of your characters within battle. You select a unit and then left-click an enemy to attack, or you right-click that enemy to use an offensive spell (or you right-click one of your units to use a healing spell, if you have them).
The combat system is actually very simplistic (you don’t have to fumble around with hotkeys like in Perfect World, World of Warcraft, and other similar games), but at the same time, this means you really don’t have a lot of battle options.
The game is utterly gorgeous to look at (possibly even better than Perfect World on maxed-out settings), but the combat honestly doesn’t appeal to me, as I was expecting strategy gameplay with a lot more complexity and depth.
