Bots Overview
Similar in style to T-Crew - by which players must work together to destory enemies in short bite-sized levels, Bots allowers players to choose from three different types of Mechs - all with their own unique differences. Unfortunetly, customization is minimal at the best of times - and with limited game modes and a sever lack of depth, players will have a hard time playing Bots for more than a few hours at a time.

Bots Review
Acclaim takes a stab at the MMO fighting genre with their new game Bots. Unfortunately, Bots is a let down on multiple levels. The first let down is the minimal customization offered in Bots. Mech games are notorious for their level of detail, but in this game, there are only 3 types of Bots: Patch, Surge, and Ram. Once you pick your bot type and name you enter the lobby. Fortunately, there is no tutorial forced down your throat. There are three types of game modes in Bots: Sector, Base, and Player. Player is Bot vs. Bot combat in either free-for-all or team style. Base is a team vs. team mode where each side must defend their base from the opposing force. The third, and most interesting mode, is Sector. Sector is a player vs. computer mode where the player controlled Bots must defeat waves of enemies to reach a boss that must be defeated.

Advertising Overload
Playing the Sector mode reminded me of those old school Beat-Em-Ups that were so popular “back in the day”. There doesn’t seem to be a beginner’s channel, so new players will feel overwhelmed when playing with opponents that are much higher in level than them. Another frustrating feature in Bots is the level of advertisements present. There are permanent banners on the bottom of your screen and a huge banner comes up while battles are loading. At the end of each battle, a video advertisement will play which players must wait to finish before returning to the lobby.

Falling short
All this would be acceptable if Bots offered some compelling game play. But here too it is lacking, combat is limited and uninspired. Besides the basic attack, bots may be equipped with ranged weapons and can transform into more powerful Mechs temporarily when a meter under the HP gauge fills. Team matches rarely involve coordination and sector maps are usually won by the high level players with minimal teamwork. When compared to the other major free-to-play Mech MMO, Exteel, Bots comes up short. If you’re interested in a simple cartoony Mech game, give Bots a try, but otherwise go play Exteel.
