Corum Online is a 2-D Fantasy MMORPG with an interesting world map and a unique PvP system where players fight for control of dungeons. Unfortunately, limited character development, poor game play, and an often broken interface make Corum Online nearly unplayable.

Corum Online Reviewed

Corum is a relatively new game in North America and since it is being offered by the same folks who made Fly For Fun, I was expecting something better. First off, character creation is very dull. The only aspect of your character which you can customize is hair: the rest cannot be changed. There are six possible classes to choose from. Selecting a class also determines your character’s gender and race. The Fighter, Priest, and Summoner are all human males, while the Ranger and Sorceress are human females. The last class, called the Arcus (basically an Archer) is a Dark Elf female. Each class has its own unique array of class specific skills as well as a set of skills common to each class. Generally, its not advisable to spread your skills between class specific skills and general skills as it will dilute your class specialty and make you weaker.

Once you enter the game, you’ll have to figure out the clumsy controls that just feel broken. You might left click command your character to move, but at times your character just doesn’t respond and stands there. Rotating the camera is done with the arrow keys rather than the right mouse button, which is very inconvenient. If you can avoid getting stuck inside fences and other objects, you’ll eventually make your way outside town and into the world map. This is one feature I liked about Corum. Like many old school RPGs, Corum features a world map where each area is portrayed as a large icon, when you walk near these icons you can enter the area they represent [Think of RPGs like Final Fantasy VII].

Once you enter the beginner dungeon, a minute walk away from town, you’ll be struck by how absurdly dull the dungeon design is. It is just a maze of identical barren areas. Depending on which class you picked, fighting the beginner monsters will either be simple or a chore. If you have the patience to grind it out for several hours you can participate in Corum Online’s interesting PvP system. Many of the higher level dungeons can be controlled by player clans, and whichever clan controls an area will receive resources from that area for doing so. However, since the game play is ridiculously dull, PvPing with boring game play hardly seems worth the effort. In conclusion, you’ll want to stay away from this one. There are plenty of better alternatives in the free MMORPG realm.
