Cronous is a 3D fantasy MMORPG that looks and plays like an old action RPG such as Diablo. Play on either PvP enabled or disabled channels as either a Fighter, Magician, Valkyrie, or Savage. Though Cronous was released in 2007, it plays and looks like its at least a decade older.

Cronous was released in 2007 which is hard to believe when you first launch the game. But before we get to that, lets take a look at character creation. There are four classes in Cronous and they are: Fighter, Magician, Valkyrie, and Savage. There is no appearance or graphic customization options in Cronous, which is a discouraging start.

Once you enter the game the first thing you’ll notice is that your character looks nothing like it did in the character selection screen. The next thing you’ll notice is that every button on the Interface is explained with a friendly help arrow. This serves as Cronous’s tutorial and while its not creative, it gets the job done and the help text can be closed at any time by hitting the escape key. The graphics and User Interface in Cronous looks very similar to that in old school action RPGs, especially the user interface of Diablo. The graphics are 3D but very primitive. This game looks like it was made in 1997, not 2007. But perhaps the developers were aiming for a retro style of visuals.

The combat is straight forward enough, left click to melee attack and right click the cast a spell, again similar to the interface in Diablo. As you kill and level up, you’ll be given stat and skill points to distribute. There are 4 stats: Strength, Agility, Stamina, and Intelligence. Each class has three skill lines, basic, class, and master. The basic skills are the same for all classes and include skills such as increase weight limit 10% or additional HP. The class specific skills are really where you want to concentrate and the skill tree is very similar to the one in Diablo.

Cronous has two servers and each server has a PvP and a non PvP channel. The general population in Cronous is rather small and its odd that there are four game channels in all. (2 for each server) The few players I did encounter did not seem to speak English which is another downside. Overall, Cronous is an early 90s game that somehow wound up in this century. If you have a yearning for old school RPGs or retro graphics, give Cronous a try but otherwise there are far better games available in the fantasy MMORPG arena.
