Overview

Review

Released in late 2007, is the first MMO developed entirely by an Australian team. is also a rare case in that there is absolutely no grind. There are no levels and all players start with access to every spell, ability, and 10,000 in gold with which to purchase all the gear they want. The best way to describe is as a free version of Guild Wars but without the RPG element. Players simply wait around in a large room and wait for arena queues.

Character creation in is straight forward, each account gets one character which can be either male or female. There are several face, hair, and hair color appearance choices as well. Upon entering the game world players can adjust their graphic and interface settings and luckily offers plenty of options. The tutorial in is very limited, players are shown how to move, target and attack but not much else. At the end of the tutorial players must participate in one free for all arena with bots. The themselves are far weaker than players and the AI that controls them is pitiful. Even after the tutorial, players can play against but its not at all challenging or entertaining.

The graphics in are very well done, assuming you have a computer that can take advantage of them. Characters actually lean forward if running straight and lean to the side if turning. The interface is also clean and generally easy to navigate. Since this is a only game, the most important aspect is combat and how it works. All attacking and casting is done through abilities of which there are five types. Most abilities are tied to one of four elements: Fire, Water, Air, and Nature. Some abilities in each element category give players a charge when used while others cost a certain number of charges. There are also neutral abilities that neither add or cost charges. Each player also has an ability cap meaning only a limited number of the dozens of abilities can be equipped at any time. Powerful spells obviously cost more than weaker ones and this cap means that in a team fight, players must specialize into offensive and support roles. This ‘cap’ system also applies to equipment. Players can equip a very powerful weapon but would then be limited in armor choices, or vise verse. There are three main battle modes in Saga and they are Bloodbath (FFA up to 32 players), Vortex (team vs team capture the crystal), and Elimination (team vs team best of five rounds).

Since all abilities and equipment is available from the beginning, new players will be overwhelmed. Each of the many dozen abilities and armor types has ten tiers. (low tiers take up less of your cap but are weaker) Choosing the right combination of abilities, armor, and weapons at the right tiers is vital and new players are likely to get thumped by more experienced players. The tutorial doesn’t even touch on any of this and players must seek out “sage” NPCs to learn key aspects of the game.

The confusing customization and lack of things to unlock are bit ’s main weakness. That title goes to the tiny game community. The server is always nearly empty meaning long queue times for every game mode. The few players online usually beg through the chat for people to queue. People who enjoy in games like or Guild Wars may find worth trying. There is nothing to unlock which means players can concentrate on developing killer character builds and testing them out. For everyone else, has too little content to warrant a recommendation.

So what happens to the people that bought the game thinking it was going to work on their computers? But because the server admins for FURY never got around to letting all Graphics cards with the capabilities to play it be enabled, did I pretty much waste $30??!?!

Fury was greatest MMO gaming experience I have ever had. Many people expected too much too soon, and many of the rest of them were just too stupid to figure the game out. I hope some of the original developers realize the potential this game really had (before the Age of the Chosen patch) and are working towards its rebirth…
