LaTale is a 2D Side scrolling Fantasy MMORPG that looks a lot like WindSlayer and Pi Story. Unlike other MMORPGs LaTale has a good deal of character customization and numerous skill trees for each class. Like MapleStory, LaTale’s game play feels extremely polished. This game is definitely worth checking out.

LaTale Review
LaTale is a 2D side scrolling fantasy MMORPG. The game looks incredibly similar to Wind Slayer and Pi Story, but has game play similar to MapleStory. Don’t let the 2D graphics turn you off from this game, the graphics are beautifully rendered and complimented with catchy background music. Before I started playing La Tale my expectations were quite low, as nearly every MapleStory “look alike” I’ve played was lack luster at best. LaTale however, blew away my expectations, the game is simple yet addictive. Start off by selecting one of the game’s four classes; Warrior, Knight, Mage and Explorer. You’re probably wondering, “What the heck is an explorer?”, well in LaTale “explorer” means “archer”. I have no idea why MMORPGs feel the need to confuse their players by renaming established fantasy classes with obscure irrelevent names.
When you start off your journey in LaTale, you’ll be shown a pretty silly opening scene where the game tries to present a story to you, but the game’s poor translations make the opening scene worthless, so go ahead and skip it. Upon entering the game, you’ll find yourself in a newbie area where you’ll see a bunch of NPCs that look like power rangers, you can go ahead and talk to them if this is the first MMORPG you’ve plasyed, as they teach you the basics of moving around, but if you’ve played any other MMORPGs before, just run past the newbie area.
The single most appealing part of LaTale is its skill system. Every class has numerous skill trees and abilities to focus on. It’s best to limit yourself to one of two skill trees, as it’s better to be powerful in a few skill trees rather than incredibly weak in a whole bunch of skills trees. The game also has an interesting feature where players have to complete quests to unlock facial emotions. This is an excellent way to promote questing and a fun feature that I’m surprised other games don’t have. Another interesting thing I noticed in LaTale is the game’s ‘aggro’ system. In every other side scrolling MMOPRG, if you bump into a monster, it’ll deal damage to you, but in LaTale, only the monsters you attack first are able to hit you. This makes it so you don’t have to search for a “safe spot” everytime you want to go away from your keyboard. If you’re in a dungeon or find a monster with a red name, the above rules don’t apply. Monsters with red names will automatically target you if they’re near you.
LaTale is a surprisingly good game, but like every game it has its downsides. The single most annoying aspect of LaTale is the game’s clumsy controls. In order to run, players have to double tap left or right, depending on which way to go. This sounds easy, but having to double tap left / right everytime you attack a monster, jump or use a skill is incredibly annoying. If your’e trying to fight a large number of monsters at any given time or kite a monster, you’ll find yourself getting killed fairly often due to the game’s clumsy controls. Another control related complaint I have is the game’s looting system. LaTale’s looting system isn’t like MapleStory where you can simply pick up loot on the floor by hitting 1 button, you’ll have to click the ‘v’ key to open up a corpse and then space bar to loot the first item on the corpse or shift+space to loot all the items on the corpse. Having to click V + SHIFT + SPACE everytime I want to loot something is absurd, especially when you’ll be killing groups of monsters at a time. Even with LaTale’s few drawbacks, the game is extremely well done and addictive. It’s worth the 550MB Download.

This seems pretty good kinda like Maplestory but suks cant play it till September 18th

In my opinion, this game rockz… It’s bigger brother Maplestory hasn’t got antzhing to say against LaTale.
LaTale is great, and in the whole 6 hours i had it, I did nothing more, than to pülay this, without break. It is so much fun^^

This game is great it just needs to get some updates.All games are better when they are fully updated like in china or japan but its great!
MS has got nothing on this game. I was in CBT, and La-Tale PWNS! If you don’t like it… DONT CLOG THE SERVER!!! Also Explorer is better than Archer cause Archer only uses Bows as primary. Explorer depends on your taste. Archer focuses on AGI in most games, while noobs focus on luck. Explorer focuses on LCK too, but without the noobish stuff. Also theres no grinding if you know where to go. Also UltimaX is my explorers name. My noob Mage is FinalFantasyIII. Yes, its cheesy, but hey, it works. Hes a good healer.
nice looking game but ppl dun share a half decent guide. Way too fukin easy to mess up ur build, and mess up ingame if ur a new player coz community dun give a shyt and dun even post a good frikin guide!

That guy who said that MS was better does not know what he is saying. LaTale blows MS in emoticons alone… and don’t get me started on how good the gameplay is compared too MS. BTW MS is more laggy.
Disagree with the part u described bad in the renaming of “Explorer” and “Annoying looting system”. In Latale, Explorer includes Dagger also,not only about bow and crossbow. Thats why it is needed to rename it,and i think renaming may become the unique part of the game. And “annoying looting system”, Latale is trying to emphasize and make good use of pet system,as in later u can get a pet which will help u auto loot all the drops,just to make sure u have enough space in ur inventory.
i really wanted to play this game cos looks like a better maple but the controls are very big fail the control programer have a strange mental desorder or something , the game have many nice features but i cant play with that strange delay in the controls.

I’ve played in OBT and the Full Release,
and Latale s really addicting.
I havent played MS, but my friend does, and she says its pretty fun.
I do say that Latale graphics are better than MapleStory, because MapleStory doesnt use color hold, and the graphics look too hard.

Some places have lame music, but there are places with catchy music.

@ upurs: I dont usually grind, unless there are no quests available.
I grind 10% of the time. You say 99% of the time, which is false.
The quests also give good EXP, and elys. Maple Story only gives you EXP, and only a few quests give you mesos. It DOESNT take forever to level up, like I said, quests are the main lvling up way. Also, I guess some quests ARENT clear, but hey, most of them are.

Also, my opinion for controls is that its okay. I dont mind these “crappy controls” because i think they’re fairly easy.

This game rockz although the server is annoying, I keep getting disconnected from my server way too much. Does anyone know a way to get another server for it instead of just one?
Reasons as to why you lag, Server/Channel is somewhat crowded, your internet is really sucky, depends on your location of the server and yourself. No one knows its not up to the players who wants to open another server at this point i dont see it having another one as it aint really crowded at all even at peak hours, unlike MS.

When I first played Latale, I was expecting an MS/Ghost Online ripoff, however, this game really is not a ripoff. It really is its own game.
The first thing that struck me when I played this game, is that the music reminded me of Ragnarok Online music, which is a good thing. The music is nice, and fits well with the game.
The grind factor is much less than that of Maple Story, and quests are extremely beneficial. Unlike MS, the level you are when a quest is given is the level that you will most likely finish that quest.
As for skills, they look very nice, and are all unique. For a comparison, Ragnarok Battle Offline skill graphics are very similar to these.
PVP will be coming out eventually, so that’s a big +.
Community is nice (so far). Overall, Latale is one of the better free MMO’s out there currently.
The games is good …my first game was maplestory and when i started this it reminds me of maplestory (the character are just a lot taller)…including the lagged.
What i hate about this game is the loading between new map or going city. Not so good for unstable internet connection but the good part is you can’t be acuse of hacking since your the only one who can see your drop unlike maplestory where when u try pick up some item while u lagged, all the item u tried to pick will fly to you and all people who see it will automatically think your a hacker which kind a sucks…
i like also how they are able to upgrade item to the next level…equipment shouldn’t be troublesome…
I also like the permanent fashion and able to add certain stats on the fashion.
Although it may look like it, Latale is nothing like Maplestory.
Aside from holding the attack key such as in MS, you start off with Fast attack and Strong attack. And you dont just slash everytime, Latale actually includes Combos.
There are many skills for every class and every weapon. Whoever said the leveling is slow is completely ignorant, You can easily reach level 15 your first day If you know what to do.
The game is addicting and is worth every minute of the Download.
I give it a 5/5 hands down.
It lags alot for me. There’s a time gap between the moment u press a button and the reaction of the character =x

i would say the games more quest orientated now since updates are happening every 2 weeks. and grinding only begins to become an influence after lvl 50 and by that time u will have quite a gd understanding of the game.
compared to ms i would say (my oppinion);
-better graphics
-better music
-MUCH betta community ive only had 1 argument on the game
-ksing is hardly an issue since instead of tryna fight for the mons partying is quicker and easier for quests/grind.
-upgrading & enchanting weapons/equips with bonus stats is very easy and impressive.
cant fink of anything else atm, but the only lame thing i would say is that cash items can become addictive and something u constantly want lol
and finally keep in mind that MS has been out for god knows how many years, latale was officially released in sept/oct and has already made such a big impact.

Downloading this at the moment and looking forward to playing, I’ve read all these comments and reviews and as a retired MS player guessing this game will be more addicting, hoping i just dont spend too much on cash items like i always do on these item mall types of things.

I just gotta say, this is definately one of the most addicting MMORPGS ive played (Ive played alot of MMORPGS…FREAKING ALOT!).
Although it lags for me sometimes, I just cant shake off the awesomeness. AND I ONLY STARTED YESTERDAY!!!!
well, this game is great lvl raise is pretty easy but wayyyy too slow, i got killed 15 times cuz of it. way to slow maplestory im only a lvl 22 but now its kinda boring.
I played this game a while back and I must say that it is great!
well Imagen a mapelstory with nice 2d grafics and it don’t take 3years to lvl. it also has nice variety in the classes and i love the grafics. the only things I don’t really like are:
the beginning it is very confusing when you first start
and the jumping is IMPOSABLE!!
well i still would say that you should try this your self.

Laggiest mmo ever…
I never had lagging issues in other free mmo before, but this game is unplayable in crowded areas, and the lowlevel areas are always crowded…
Fuck peak hours, because it’s a nice game overall…
I played MS for 2 years, then I quitted for various reasons (bad community, messed up economy, wasn’t able to buy NX)
since it was my first mmorpg, i searched for a similar one and bumped into Ghost online. I liked the ambience (feudal japan, i admit it, i’m a huge samurai/ninja fan xD) but it didnt convince me fully.
my next addiction came with Grand Chase. I liked the system and community, but I always hated mmo(rpg)s where you have to select a room, and don’t have the possibility to walk freely in the world and explore it.
Then I found LaTale. and what do I have to say? i’m addicted again (not in a bad way ^^) i even like it more than MapleStory: friendly community, combos, fast-paced (these 2 were also a reason for me to quit MS).
surely, as it’s already mentioned in the text, i found some cons: screen resolution can’t be optimised for widescreens (= notebooks) and you can’t jump on ladders and ropes whilst running (this seems to be a glitch. Hop it will be fixed soon)
for all those who like/liked maple, i really reccomend LaTale. and another tip: don’t quit on the first occasion, let pass a bit time, and you’ll see, that you’ll love it!

i played this game a bit and its pretty cool. reminds me of an old school platformer =) a lotta people complain about the controls, but i had no problems with jumping onto/off of ladders and looting; just loot AFTER you kill your mob since others can’t see it to steal
i will admit though that its kinda laggy at times, even with good internet. i liked enough to give a $10 donation and got a sweet outfit outta it; finally a mmo where the shop items don’t screw with the game balance/have timed clothing. i tried maple a long while back and hated the MAD ks fest and horrid leveling curve. i’m not saying this one’s easy, but its easier definitely. people will ks you on the occasion, but what mmo does that not happen in? community’s pretty good too, though kinda small at the moment. i say its worth the download.
