Martial Heroes Reviewed

Martial Heroes is very generic looking free MMORPG. There are four classes: Monk, Warrior, Mage, and Assassin. The Assassin is a female while the rest are male. Unfortunately, there is no hair or body customization. The only aspect of your character you can customize is the face and the placement of 5 stat points. There are five stats in Martial Heroes: Str, Dex, Vat, Agi, and Int. T

hroughout Martial Heroes, you’ll actually have to raise almost all of these stats in order to equip gear and learn new skills. This is a welcome change from games where warriors just pump str while mages pump int. Your class will still determine which stat is the most important, but at least the game will compel you to explore more complicated stat builds.

Once your character is created, you’ll start out in an empty village which is supposed to serve as a tutorial area. Immediately click the “Skip Tutorial” button to the right of your screen. The tutorial offers no instruction and is nearly worthless. Now, you’ll be teleported to a populated town with NPCs that have quests to offer you. Leveling in this game is very rapid in the early levels and so it is recommended that you simply ignore these quests, go outside, and start killing. Be sure to click “I” to open your inventory and equip your gear and activate the +20% EXP coupon you start with. Your inventory will also contain 1000 HP and MP potions, a token to summon a horse mount, and multiple skill books. This is all very convenient but it makes the beginner experience painfully simple.

Monsters several levels higher than you will be no challenge, you’ll go from target to target barely taking damage. If you somehow manage to die, luckily you’ll have the option to just resurrect right where you died. Unfortunately, once reaching level 12 you’ll be forced to actually do a quest to obtain the first job advancement.

Playing Martial Heroes was a very bland experience and it seemed the developers went too far in accommodating new players. I can understand characters starting with a handful of healing items, but 1000? The main towns seem to be populated, but most of the world is barren of other players which is disheartening. But even with these blemishes, Martial Heroes is not a terrible game. The trouble is that there are so many superior free games available these days that I cannot recommend Martial Heroes.
