Myth War Online is a 2D fantasy MMORPG that has a turn based “Active Time Battle System”, which is similar to many single player RPGs, such as Final Fantasy VII. Choose from one of four races: Human, Centaur, Mage, and Brog. Pets play an important role in Myth War, as does PvP. A massive new update was released late June 2008.

Myth War Online Reviewed
NOTE: Myth War Online was recently updated significantly and is now called Myth War Online II. The graphics were updated and several game mechanics were changed.
Playing Myth War Online will remind you of those old 2D console RPGs that we all played and loved. The combat in Myth War is “Turn Based Active Time Battle”. This means the player and enemy stand at opposite ends of the screen during battle sequences and the player picks what attack or skill to use and then waits for each character’s bar to fill before the attack commences. The one problem with this system is that if you don’t pick an action in time, you’ll forfeit your turn or end up doing an auto-attack.
Combat starts after random encounters, similar to RPGs like Final Fantasy. Myth War has four races which also double as classes. They are: Human, Centaur, Mage, and Borg. Yes, “Mage” is a race in this game. Centaurs are the healers, Mages are the weak but powerful damage dealers, Humans and Borgs are the melee fighters. Each race can be male or female and each gender has a unique skill.
You start out in a small town made for beginners. The game instructs you to speak to an NPC which is right in front of you. That NPC than leads you to another NPC and so on until all the basic game elements are explained. After that you head towards the combat tutorial NPC where you’re given a quest to go kill monsters. One major flaw in Myth Wars is that the early game hunting ground is absurdly easy. The monsters die in one hit and miss you half the time, and even if they hit you the damage they deal is minimal.
After the initial hunting quest, you’ll be given your first pet which will fly along side you and kill everything you encounter with a single hit. Skill points are acquired by leveling and can be allocated as the player wishes. Each time you level, your stats will increase by +1 and you’ll be given 4 points to distribute manually among the four stats (STA, INT, STR, AGI) Since the release of Myth War Online II, the interface and combat screen have been made much cleaner and easier to use. My old complaints about the interface are now obsolete.
Poor translations can still be found in Myth Wars. However, if you can look past these mostly cosmetic flaws, you’re in for a unique MMO experience. If you are at all interested in the combat style (turn based with random encounters), you should seriously consider giving Myth Wars Online a try.
