Neosteam is a 3D Sci-Fi MMORPG set in a Steam Punk universe. Neosteam has beautiful graphics and music which are up to par with most pay to play games. With 2 factions at war, 6 races, and 4 classes to chose from, Neosteam is one of the best free to play MMORPGs available.

Neosteam Reviewed
Neosteam entered Open Beta on May 20, 2008 and while there are still many bugs, it is clear that this is the next generation of free to play MMORPGs. Neosteam looks great and has some of the best music I’ve heard in a free to play game to date. In Neosteam there are two factions at war though both sides have the same races and classes. The six races are: Human, Elf, Pom, Luife, Lyell, and Taxzm Human. Each race has racial specials, for example potions have a greater effect on Elves. The four classes are: Fighter, Mage, Crafter, and Rogue. While every class is open to every race, some races are more specialized for certain classes. One strange feature during character creation is that most races are either male or female and cannot be changed. Besides race and class, there are several hair and head customization options to add some uniqueness to your character.
The game world in Neosteam is very well crafted and the unique genre adds a great deal of depth. Neosteam is set in a Steam Punk world which means you’ll see plenty of primitive looking machines, gears, and cogs. The introductory quests are simple kill quests with excellent rewards. Equipment and potions are provided through the intro quest and last until the first job change at level 10 and beyond. Each class has two job choices upon reaching level 10 and completing another simple quest. Sadly, none of the quests between the intro and job change quest are worth doing. Leveling up in Neosteam is very easy since most of the monsters are pathetic. Even at low levels, players can easily farm monsters several levels higher than themselves. While fast leveling is mostly a good thing, it does remove the element of challenge from most of the early game in Neosteam.
After the first job change, players are introduced to Rear Land, a place where characters level up faster but with open PvP, which rebalanced the risk vs reward scale. At times the entrances to the hunting grounds are camped by higher level members of the opposing faction which may prevent lower leveled characters from benefiting from the extra exp rates in Rear Land, though the main land still provides an adequate hunting ground. Gold is automatically looted while hunting though players must right click the corpse of defeated enemies to acquire any items their foes may of been carrying.
Neosteam is a very new game which means there are plenty of bugs and other problems to contend with. For example, the English translations are very poor and full of grammatical errors. There are some problems with obstacle collusion. From time to time characters will get stuck on fences or rocks and will need to be manually steered away from them. There is currently a single server for the worldwide game audience which is probably the main reason behind the 1 or 2 second delay between actions. Hopefully these bugs and other problems will be cleared up before long.
Neosteam does not deviate far from the MMORPG mold but it does present it self in a new fashion. As far as I know, no other game has offered a steam punk game world (except for the Gnome areas of World of Warcraft.) For a free game, Neosteam offers a large selection of races and classes. If you’re interested in MMORPGs be sure to follow this one closely, most of the bugs should be cleared up in the next few patches.
