Oz World is a 3D social MMORPG where players fish to gain currency and level up. There is no fighting in Oz as it is more of a social experience than a traditional sword & sorcery type RPG. Players can own and customize their own homes and even get married.

Oz World Reviewed

Oz World is one of the stranger MMORPGs I’ve come across. Designed more as a social experience than a traditional hack and slash RPG, Oz World is not for everyone and its important to understand what Oz offers before jumping in. First thing first, there is no fighting in Oz World. No grind, no hunting, not even any crafting. The main activity in Oz World, besides socializing, is fishing. Players gain experience by fishing, leveling up then allows players to equip better fishing poles and so forth. In many respects Oz World feels like Giai Online in video game form.

New players start on a beach which happens to be a popular fishing spot among the general player base. Attempting to walk around in Oz World immediately displays the game’s clunky interface. Players must rotate in place to face the direction they wish to move before hitting forward. The graphics in Oz World are three dimensional but are poorly rendered. The game world looks dark and uninspired and moving from one area to another is handled in worst way possible. Once a character reaches the end of the screen, they are taken to the adjacent screen. This kind of game world was acceptable 10+ years ago but not today. This is a low budget Asian MMORPG, poor English translation almost goes without saying.

With Oz World has far too many flaws to even pass off as a virtual chat client but to be fair, lets discuss some of the appealing features. Oz World has player housing which is something thats rarely seen in modern MMORPGs. Players can purchase houses in one of several locations and customize their interior. Characters can also have weddings which seems to be a feature every Korean game seems to be adopting. What surprised me the most about Oz World was the helpful community, in most games people are too busy hunting or questing to pay much attention to other players, but I guess if you take away all the fun things to do, people have nothing better to do than help new players. If you’re looking for a semi functional fishing client with built in 3d chat, you could give Oz World a try but you’re better off on a social networking website than with this mess.
