PoxNora is a 2d fantasy MMO with turn based combat. Players combine (called runes) to create decks and battle it out against each other or computer opponents. PoxNora is very unique and can best be described as a blend of Magic the Gathering, Mage Knight, and Tactics RPGs.

PoxNora Review
Released in 2006, PoxNora is a very unique game that combines table top miniature, collectible card game, and RPG tactics style game play. Like Dreamlords, PoxNora is played in a game client and on a web browser. Combat takes place in game while card management and deck construction must be done on the official site. The basics of PoxNora are simple to learn but constructing a functioning deck is much more difficult.
Upon launching the game, new players will be asked to try the optional tutorial. Each turn, players receive a certain amount of nura (mana) and can draw a certain number of runes. (cards) There are four rune types; Champion, Spell, Relic, and Equipment. Champions are the basic units while other cards support them in some way. The object of each 1 v 1 match is to destroy the opponents Shrine. Sadly, PoxNora can only be played in 1v1 battles against either another player or the AI.
Game play works like a turn based strategy game. All units (champions) have six stats: Attack, Defense, Speed, Range, Damage, and HP. Each turn units gain a Action Point (AP) which are required for movement and attacking. AP can be saved up which means units can move and attack several times per turn. Putting your nura and AP to strategic use is vital, blowing it as soon as you get it is not encouraged. Each round, champions will gain experience based on how they were used and whether or not their owner won the match. PoxNora has several varied maps, swamps, mountains, field, etc which keep things fresh. The music is unique to each stage and sounds great but unfortunately there is very little of it which mean you’ll hear the same short piece dozens of times during each match. Even with a 1:45 default turn time limit, matches take a long time. Turn based tactics games are not for everyone, patience is a necessity.
The single player component of PoxNora consists of two campaigns each with 4 stages. There are several other campaigns but they must be purchased. The worst part about this game is that so much of it is locked behind fees. Players are given several free sets of runes but additional runes (cards) must be purchased like booster packs. It is possible to play PoxNora for hours for free but paying members will have a significant advantage over free users. PoxNora is not a game for everyone. It has a very specific niche, those who like slow paced strategic gaming or who are interested in collectible card/miniature games should give PoxNora a try.

I agree totally…they should not even bother with the free to play advertisment…most free to play games you can actually play..this one you really need to purchase cards to play..you cannot even lvl up any of the free decks…sorry I wasted my time on this game…
Free to play but u ned a username and password so how do u get that?
re: crazypauly
i guess i don’t understand your point here. sure you don’t get *all* the features paid accounts get but how is that different from most other games online? the fact is that you can choose from eight different free battlegroups to play with for as long as you like. additionally, you can play several free single player campaigns that actually give you player rewards, again for as long as you like.
it might not be everyone’s cup o’ tea but to slam it for not being completely free is kind of silly.
