Shaiya Reviewed

Shaiya is another run-of-the-mill 3-D mmorpg with only a handful of unique features.. You start off the game in a random town, and fight monsters until you level. No story, no introduction, no tutorial, nothing at all. Start by choosing one of the six available classes on your faction; Fighter, Defender, Priest, Ranger, Archer and Mage if you’re on the light side. The opposing faction has pretty much the same classes with different names. They are Assassin, Pagan, Oracle, Warrior, Guardian and Hunter.

The game starts off with fairly fast paced leveling, but when you hit level 15 or so, leveling becomes extremely difficult. It’s as if you hit a brick wall. Leveling becomes almost exponentially more difficult as you level. Luckily, if you selected “easy mode” when creating your character, you’ll level a bit faster than normal. If you’ve selected either Normal or Hard mode, leveling will definitely start to get repetitive and boring here.

In Shaiya, players can select their difficulty mode when creating their characters, which is actually a pretty innovative feature. Easy mode restricts the skills you can learn, but yields faster XP gain. The higher the difficulty you select, the slower your XP gain, but your character has access to skills those who selected easy mode do not.

Quests aren’t very interesting, but they are easy to do and are marked on the radar/map which makes questing worthwhile. It’s also very difficult to get money in Shaiya, especially as a newbie. This is especially aggravating when you need to buy potions and armor, as even low level equipment can cost absurd amounts at the blacksmith, and without money you won’t level very fast, as you have to rest after each monster you kill. Shaiya is worth a download only if you’ve played through the other, better MMORPGs and want to try something new.
