Thang Online is only a few years old but it looks ancient. The graphics are 3d but not in the way we use the term today. More like early 1990s 3D. But lets not pick on the graphics and get on with the show. There are three “tribes” which act as classes in the world of thang: The female Rain tribe which act as the major damage dealing melee class, the male Kahoa which specialize in Dextarity and double as tanks and ranged damage dealers, and finally the female On-Du Sham which are the mage class that specialize in healing and buffing. While each of the three tribes can play several roles, the overall lack of choice and customization is apparent.
The game play in Thang is point and click, hack and slash. While this is nothing special, its easy to pick up. Unfortunately, after the early levels, combat becomes tiring since it takes a long time to kill each monster. The level cap is well over 100 so be prepared for a long grind. Leveling up allows players to learn new skill and distribute points between the six stats and they are: Str, Dex, Stam, Int, Sense, and Ki. Luckily, every class has AoE moves which allow easy exp farming though the Rain tribe is far superior in this field and can thus level much faster than the other tribes.
Some features in Thang are still not complete, for example clicking the ‘Quest’ icon will give you the message “Under Construction” which is absurd, what kind of MMORPG made this millennium doesn’t have a quest menu? Despite its glaring faults, Thang Online has a decent sized community though new players are harder to spot. One of Thang Online’s most celebrated features is the refinement process where gear can be upgraded to a maximum of +10 through a process that could end up destroying the item. Like the rest of the game, even the refinement feature doesn’t stand out, we’ve seen it before in a dozen Korean MMORPGs ranging from Ragnarok to FlyFF. There are just too many better games out there for me to recommend Thang to anyone.
