Overview

zOMG Review

zOMG is the new MMORPG released as part of the Online networking site. Prior to zOMG’s release, Online was purely a experience but now it is a full fledged MMORPG with a unique combat system, an explorable world, many quests to complete, and items to collect. Current Online users can simply launch zOMG and play with their current avatars. New players must first sign up with Online before launching the game. For anyone who played Online but lost interest, zOMG definitely makes it worthwhile to give the game another try.

zOMG Full Review

After many years, the folks behind Gaia Online have finally added a combat oriented MMORPG to their widely popular networking site. zOMG! is not a stand alone game, players who don’t already have Online accounts will have to sign up before launching zOMG!

Character creation is done right at the registration page. Chose from several hair, clothing, and face styles and start playing. There are no stats to worry about in or zOMG. When you first launch zOMG you will be treated to a short introduction movie. After this you’ll find your self in an out of control train. This begins the tutorial. zOMG! is heavily dialogue oriented and the story flows better than most free to play MMORPGs but after a while the mountain of quest text becomes unreadable and you’ll find you self clicking through it as fast as you can. After a short train scene, players will be introduced to the game’s basic elements through a series of quests that take place in the sewers. New players won’t be able to enter the rest of the zOMG world until this quest line is completed.

Combat in zOMG is based on various types of rings. The tutorial will provide players with one ring of each of the three types.

Combat Rings:

Matis (short range)

Solar Rays (long range)

Hot Foot (medium range, burn damage.)

Healing Rings

Diagnose - heal everyone around you

Meat - increase max hp, slight heal

Bandage - large heal over time

Support Ring (these only work on other players)

Knife Sharpen - increase accuracy of target

Improbability Sphere - shield that reflects attacks on occassion

Rock Armor - deduce damage taken by target.

As players defeat monsters and complete quests they will be rewarded with orbs that can be used to upgrade ring levels. In addition to this, players will earn ‘G’hi’ skills which can only be used when near other players. Both support rings and G’Hi skills are zOMG!’s way of encouraging players to interact with one another. When attacking, players may also charge up an attack by holding the left mouse button & filling up a ‘rage’ meter shown on the bottom left. All this gives zOMG an in depth and unique combat experience.

zOMG has a very helpful userinterface. The mini map will display quest givers (believe me there ae a lot of these) and quest objectives. All interface boxes can be moved around so if you’re not comfortable with the default set up, feel free to experiment. You can move with either the mouse (point and click) or with the W,A,S,and D buttons. zOMG’s intergration with the main Online site is done perfectly. Clothing worn on the website are displayed on your in game avatar and items collected in zOMG are shown in your website profile. If you’re a current Online player, there is no reason not to try zOMG, and even if you’re a newcomer zOMG has elevated ’s offering from merely a network to a full fledged MMORPG.

    This review makes zOMG! look horrible. >w<;

While I’ll be the first to admit it has simple controls and average graphics for a 2D game, think about instead of everything else that you’ll get by trying this game: a whole community of people to talk and relate with, be it if it’s in zOMG!, in the forums, or even in any of the other mini-games that Gaia offers such as fishing or cards (their version of 21), or their newest mini-game: The Electrik Love Faktori (no, that’s not a typo xD).

And even if you only join for the MMO; zOMG! has plenty to offer including amazingly witty NPC dialog, an actual immersive storyline (most of which can be read-up on in the site’s Manga “News” Archive) and a unique leveling system in which you level your rings up (which servers as attacks, heals and buffs)and not your actual character, meaning anybody can quickly swap out rings to achieve a desired level to play with both their newbie and veteran friends alike on equal footing.

I’d highly suggest you play this game, because even if you find it may not be your cup of tea, the other community and mini-game aspects may just catch your eye.

This game is also currently cash-shop friendly in terms of game play, as null fragments (used in crafting items)and power-ups (superchargers and ring polisher tubes) can be found in-game through quests or random loot (and also through the cash shop, naturally). :3

For more info on zOMG!, be sure to check out the guide I’ve written on it:

I hope to see you all there!

And don’t worry: lawn gnomes are only dangerous when they swarm…which is pretty much all the time. ;O

It’s a fun game, incredibly addictive, and the combat style is unique.

This review does not make it look horrible at all, in fact the last line encourages people to take a look at it.

Just to let you know, starter rings can’t be traded with.
It’s okay, but it’s really hard to upgrade your rings. The orbs don’t drop much (Orbs are what you use to upgrade with.)
Also, Quote, it says people that have quit Gaia before zOMG!
    should try playing it again.

    I can’t consider it a game… o0

  6. by Shulla, on 11.22.08 @ 5:55 pm

It has a shitty name, that’s for sure.
    I don’t think I’ll try it.

    From my hand experience ==’

+ This game is NOT develope level system like other MMORPG.
+ But use ring for upgrade CL instead level system. (You can change ring for change our tactic too, it had more comfortable than other game)
+ Can be develop by orb-charge for upgrade ring and CL.
+ Wide simulate character by my our avatar from base game. (Change in Gaia Online only)
+ Show map and know where am I stand. However, you can know how to tell NPC when do quest section.
+ Free play. Free air time!!
    - Game Scenario Level was seem amusement park. And not freestyle walkway (you know when start in Barton Town, and you must be direct to order walkway. Go to Greenland village > Bearh Bill > Zen Garden Blah blah blah)
    - Boring text quest. It’s so much talk and not understand.
    - EXTREME lag!! I used ADSL 256 - 1024 Kbps to play, nearbly of all server has very lag.
    - When combat with monster, if you lag, you must wrong walk or action. (Hardest movement command)
    - Often full server (Red caution) If you want to play with your friend in server, don’t quit from server at any cost!!
    - If you be right back so long time, you’ll be disconnect out of server.

if you need to know I’ve been on Gaia online for 4 years and yes that is my newest( ll Red X ll Those are L s’)) account and yes this Mmorpg just came out this year I’ve been waiting for it for a long time it was Not worth the wait this Mmorpg is not very impressive for one Bad graphics now i can deal with that anytime but you die way too easily this mmo is basically attacked by this team of “the Animated” (( that includes Gnomes, Gramsters ( Mutated Hamsters), and many more well you supposedly end up in a subway when you first start and you have to fight your way out of course and what you do after that is complete basic missions collect orbs and find recipes ( P.S recipes= GOOOD) and with your orbs you power up your rings for example a mantis summons a katana strike in thin air well that i have to say is pretty neat although there are a bit of ridiculous attacks i understand its a kids site but teenagers took over that site anyways basically you do all that and you end up in many different places it sounds good I know but I have to disagree its a very childish mmo and its a basic problem so if your into mmo that involve plungers this is your game ( just play the game and you’ll see what I’m talking about “Plungers”) :) well good luck um

  9. by Nox Vulpes, on 12.14.08 @ 4:37 am

This game is very addicting at first, but after awhile it’s easy to see how much of a freakin’ farmfest it is to level your rings (and thus yourself). The method of gaining levels in an MMO should never be determined by *IF* the player is lucky enough to get an orb to drop off of a monster.

    Happy farming. :)
