"LaTale" is a 2D sidescrolling MMORPG that looks a lot like "WindSlayer". Unlike other 2D MMORPGs "LaTale" has a good deal of character customization, and numerous skill trees for each class.
Like "MapleStory," "LaTale’s" gameplay feels extremely polished.
This game is definitely worth checking out if you like the sidescrolling, arcade-inspired titles!

LaTale is a 2D side scrolling fantasy MMORPG. The game looks incredibly similar to Wind Slayer and Pi Story, but has game play similar to MapleStory. Don’t let the 2D graphics turn you off from this game, the graphics are beautifully rendered and complimented with catchy background music. Before I started playing La Tale my expectations were quite low, as nearly every MapleStory “look alike” I’ve played was lack luster at best. LaTale however, blew away my expectations, the game is simple yet addictive. Start off by selecting one of the game’s four classes; Warrior, Knight, Mage and Explorer. You’re probably wondering, “What the heck is an explorer?”, well in LaTale “explorer” means “archer”. I have no idea why MMORPGs feel the need to confuse their players by renaming established fantasy classes with obscure irrelevent names.
When you start off your journey in LaTale, you’ll be shown a pretty silly opening scene where the game tries to present a story to you, but the game’s poor translations make the opening scene worthless, so go ahead and skip it. Upon entering the game, you’ll find yourself in a newbie area where you’ll see a bunch of NPCs that look like power rangers, you can go ahead and talk to them if this is the first MMORPG you’ve plasyed, as they teach you the basics of moving around, but if you’ve played any other MMORPGs before, just run past the newbie area.
The single most appealing part of LaTale is its skill system. Every class has numerous skill trees and abilities to focus on. It’s best to limit yourself to one of two skill trees, as it’s better to be powerful in a few skill trees rather than incredibly weak in a whole bunch of skills trees. The game also has an interesting feature where players have to complete quests to unlock facial emotions. This is an excellent way to promote questing and a fun feature that I’m surprised other games don’t have. Another interesting thing I noticed in LaTale is the game’s ‘aggro’ system. In every other side scrolling MMOPRG, if you bump into a monster, it’ll deal damage to you, but in LaTale, only the monsters you attack first are able to hit you. This makes it so you don’t have to search for a “safe spot” everytime you want to go away from your keyboard. If you’re in a dungeon or find a monster with a red name, the above rules don’t apply. Monsters with red names will automatically target you if they’re near you.
LaTale is a surprisingly good game, but like every game it has its downsides. The single most annoying aspect of LaTale is the game’s clumsy controls. In order to run, players have to double tap left or right, depending on which way to go. This sounds easy, but having to double tap left / right everytime you attack a monster, jump or use a skill is incredibly annoying. If you're trying to fight a large number of monsters at any given time or kite a monster, you’ll find yourself getting killed fairly often due to the game’s clumsy controls. Another control related complaint I have is the game’s looting system. LaTale’s looting system isn’t like MapleStory where you can simply pick up loot on the floor by hitting 1 button, you’ll have to click the ‘v’ key to open up a corpse and then space bar to loot the first item on the corpse or shift+space to loot all the items on the corpse. Having to click V + SHIFT + SPACE everytime I want to loot something is absurd, especially when you’ll be killing groups of monsters at a time. Even with LaTale’s few drawbacks, the game is extremely well done and addictive. It’s worth the 550MB Download.

Yeah I have to agree that Latale is pretty good MMO. And the community actually is better than most. (I am not going to point fingers at the most obvious disappointment of a community...) The graphics wayyyy surpass Maplestory and you also get a second chance with the skills. Just in case you mess them up, you can reset them for ingame cash. So I would reccomend checking this game out if you got time.

theirs a few things a bit wrong about your review now...the story is now nicely translated in the aeria games new version and the story is really catchy now and i got to say one of the best mmorpg storys out there so far...and also plz dont call 2d mmorpgs a maplestory look alike because maplestory is way last gen and just since a game is 2d doesnt mean its a maplestory lookalike so just erase that because i hate hearing that...since latale is sooo much more advanced then maplestory will ever be so people give it a try

I agree with your reveiw in most points but i wanted to point out some wrong things u said(most likly because you wrote this during obt or cbt) 1:for the looting u only click v to look in the bag,u dont have to hold it while looting.Plus,if there is one thing in the bag u jst click space or if u dont want everything scroll through them with the arrow keys.The shift+space is to select everything.( ido agree about the keys since i have a special skill set for shift so alot of times after looting my skill will go off) 2:The whole monster-only-hit-after-player-hits-them thing, is only areas up to the ancient forest(becuase they want to make it easy for starters), fore ex: if u were to go to temple of pluton they would hit u on first sight. 3:(this relates to number 2)the color of the names dont matter if they will hit u or not.It jst means how hard it is for u CHART RED-if u tried killing u would most likely be dead in a min ORANGE-if u haddy a party u would have a good(not exelence) chance of killing it(and enough potions) YELLOW- this is the color u want to kill, may take more work but u still be able to kill it and get good exp GREEN- fairly easy for u WHITE-dont even bother messing with it anymore and thats the end

Well good 550mb download for one. Multiple skill trees. But double pressing directional keys to move and opening up bags just to loot? I was going to look for a game other than Maplestory to play because I was going to quit Maplestory and I thought about this one, but id rather play Maplestory than play this. Sorry peeps.
