Review
Originally launched in France, Muniz was recently published in the United Kingdom. This means English speakers across the world can now play the game in their native language. Like Gaia Online, Muniz is a social MMO with casual gameplay features. Muniz is not about slaying orcs or dragons, instead players can get married and elect a weekly king, a form of popularity contest.
Character creation in Muniz Online is simple enough, players have three avatar choices; a human male, female, and a genderless egg. Each avatar has multiple head and clothing options as well. Don’t worry too much about your initial appearance since Muniz allows you to change all aspects of it at any time via the account tab on the top section of the site.
Muniz has a virtual world section accessible by clicking the ‘Chat!’ tab on the top area. This is where you’ll be spending most of your time on the site as this is where most of the content is. The Muniz world isn’t very large or populated (most areas are empty) but luckily the map allows players to see how many players are in each area and to instantly teleport from one place to another. Throughout the game world players will discover small stone pillars with a circular pattern at the base. When you step on one of these, you will be asked if you want to play a particular mini game. The mini games are generally clones of the games you’ve seen elsewhere, there is for example a bust a move clone near the beginner area. Depending on how well you play, Muniz will reward you with points & a random item lotto.
Muniz dedicates a lot of space to in game weddings. A section of the site allows visitors to see who is married to who, and how long they have been together. Marrying another player has its own automated procedure. Marriages can only take place is certain areas of the map, which are clearly marked with titles such as ‘Marriage in the Woods.’ In these zones players will find an area with four circles on the ground. The two players getting married and two guests must be present in order for the marriage process to begin. Once started, players must endure some dialogue and must say ‘yes’ when asked if they want to be married. This may sound simple but I managed to somehow screw it up twice.
Another feature in Muniz is the weekly king. Each day, every character may cast one vote towards who they want to become next week’s king. Who ever wins this popularity contest received 1000 c and access to special royal items. With the game’s current population this feature is not very interesting. Muniz boasts additional features like player housing and a quest system but I was unable to experience any of these. When I attempted to chose a house, I received an invalid URL error.
Muniz is still very new and undergoing major updates. The game has transferred over to Acclaim’s MMO portal and will hopefully become more functional. At this stage Muniz is playable but has a significant lack of content.
