Power Soccer
"Power Soccer" is a free-to-play online soccer game playable from your web browser. Even though it's a browser game, amazingly "Power Soccer" offers full 3D soccer gameplay, just like you'd expect in a big budget console soccer game.
And, unlike a lot of games, you create and control an entire team that levels up by playing others -- not just a single player.
So if you like soccer, and want to run your own team to prove you're the best manager (and player) in the world, then this is the game for you!

Review
The world of sports games isn't small by any means. On consoles there are yearly releases from major publishers, each trying to one-up each other with million-dollar titles. PCs seem to be slowly falling out of grace with these publishers, who have been slowly pulling their titles from the shelves, leaving gamers who prefer a keyboard and mouse far fewer options than they're used to. "Power Soccer" might not be what most sports gamers are looking for, but it might be just what they need to tide them over until the bigger releases hit store shelves.
"Power Soccer" is, as the title suggests, a soccer game, with a competitive multiplayer spin that should be alluring to fans of her majesty's football. Players create their own team, level up through play, and can spend points to improve their players. It isn't overly heavy on the RPG, which should be good considering the audience for "Power Soccer" might not be the same as the one for "Free Realms." It is, however, just enough to create a driving force to continue playing.
Also driving that force is the gameplay itself, which is surprisingly well developer for a free, browser-based soccer game. The graphics are about as detailed as a PlayStation title, but it's definitely much smoother looking. It's one thing to deliver a 2D sidescrolling MMORPG without a download, but a full, 3D soccer game is another story entirely. It isn't as much of a simulation as a game like "FIFA," but it's still admirable how entertaining it can be. Most of the important facets of the sport are controlled with just the mouse and a few buttons on the keyboard, meaning it shouldn't be too hard to learn the rules and begin playing quickly. Even as someone who isn't all too involved in the sport, I found myself entertained enough to justify a few more games than I anticipated wanting to stick around for.
Not all is great when it comes to "Power Soccer," though. Lag problems and glitches put a damper on things, with floating hair, poor physics, and other issues keeping the title from propelling past the stigma usually associated with browser-based games. It also doesn't feel fully finished, with some aspects of the game missing or in need of tweaking. As said before, I'm not really a huge soccer guy, but even I know I shouldn't be able to slide tackle nonstop with only the occasional slap on the wrist. Players need to have more identity, and players need to be thrown out of the game for failing to obey the rules. These seemingly minor steps would help move the game much further towards actual competition with more well-known releases, free-to-play MMO or not.
While it's nothing incredibly new, there's something charming about "Power Soccer." It's slick, simple, and just plain fun. I wouldn't recommend it over something more complex for true soccer fans, but it beats the heck out of most free flash games out there, and it's definitely among the best multiplayer games in the genre for the price.
