Sherwood Dungeon is a unique browser based MMORPG in the sense that the game actually has impressive visuals and plays in real time. Sherwood Dungeon utilizes Macromedia Flash and Shockwave, so make sure you have the latest versions of both, otherwise the game won't launch for you. Sherwood Dungeon has a less than impressive character creation screen and absolutely no character customization.

Sherwood Dungeon's most absurd drawback is the game's channel system. Upon logging in one of the three game servers, you'll be randomly assigned to one of 99 game channels within that server based on the population of every other channel. In order to keep the game lag free, the developers opted to create 99 identical channels to divide up the games population. Each channel will never have more than 20 or so people in it at any given time and moving from area to area will force you to be once again randomly assigned to the channel with the least number of people in it. The constant channel changing will destroy any sense of cooperative play, as if you made friends someone while playing, odds are you'll never bump into that person again.

Sherwood Dungeon's most interesting feature is the games combat. Unlike traditional MMORPGs where combat is based entirely on the "left click and hold" system, Sherwood Dungeon forces players to be a bit more involved. Players have to hold the "Ctrl" key while fighting and can block by holding Shift+Ctrl. In order to block successfully you have to time the action correctly. If you block successfully, your next attack will deal double damage, and if you block twice; your next attack will deal triple damage. This system makes "PvP" a bit more skill based rather than the usual "whoever has the best equipment wins" shenanigans you'll find in most games. Since Sherwood Dungeon has an open PvP environemnt, I recommend players master blocking early on, as if you don't learn to block, you'll always die fighting other players.
