WonderKing
"WonderKing" is a 2D sidescrolling MMO that's like a new version of "MapleStory."
Like "MS," "WK" is made for all ages. But, unlike "MS," "WonderKing" has player housing, siege PVP, crafting, cooking, mounts, vehicles, and more.
It may look like "MapleStory," but its gameplay is way better. This is the king of 2D sidescrolling MMOs.

Review
Little carrot men, high-pitched voices, and giggling are things you’d probably find in a baby-sitting center, but this is the exactly what sums up the cutesy free-to-play MMORPG “Wonderking.”
Often called a "Maplestory clone," "Wonderking" has many noticeable similarities to its mammoth predecessor. The world is smaller than "Maplestory's," but the graphics are sharper and visually stimulating. There are even forum battles over which of NDoors' 2D side-scrolling games is "better," and which will ultimately be more successful. Considering that "Wonderking" is still in Closed Beta, comparing the two is rather unfair at this point.
"Wonderking's" story is very spiritual and resembles much of the Christian bible. I can't help but notice the likeness between the two. I guess one could say that the story is somewhat unoriginal, but at the same time, it's quite refreshing to see a story that isn't about fairies, tree-people, monsters and castles.
Even though the story is a nice change of pace, "Wonderking's" classes are pretty cliche and expected: Mage, Swordsman, Scout and Thief. Moving forward, you're able to branch out to four specializations within each base class. The archetype I played most was a scout, and I became bored within a few minutes. All you have to do is press the Control key to shoot, so I just kept mashing the button to grind through quests. As you can imagine, this got old very quickly.
The creatures I was endlessly killing were extremely cute, and even had tears coming out of their eyes when they died. That seemed a little messed up to me, and made grinding more painful than it already is...
One thing I will make note of is that since this is an early build of the game, there are plenty of technical issues. While logging in, I felt the need to cross my fingers and hope that I wouldn't encounter any errors. I've encountered about four or five different ones in the past week or two alone. There are those who can run the game from the get-go and never have issues, but if you do, keep in mind that they're constantly fixing technical aspects; you can troubleshoot on the forums, but if the game won't work on your system, submit a ticket with the specs, and just hope it gets fixed in the next patch.
Even in a closed beta stage, "Wonderking" is definitely impressive -- but it needs some work in order to match up to "Maplestory." But do we really want "Wonderking" to be compared to "Maplestory" in the first place? Some originality and innovation could probably do the game some good. The story is a great start; now let's just toss in some bett

Bezerk, on October 4th 2009 04:08 pm
anyone know if this game lets you dash like ghost online? that part killed maple story for me when it takes so long to reach one area to the next...loved how ghost you ran like crazy and hopped around like a ninja...hopefully this is the same

Phaze, on September 2nd 2009 04:07 pm
This game is okay...it's ALMOST like maple story but not EXACTLY. But they DID copy a lot of stuff from Maple Story it's so obvious for sure. What's REALLY annoying is the emotions your character can portray are like...babyish and annoying and they make stupid sounds every time. The combat is good when you are a beginner especially archers they have double blows already! :]
ChocolateZipper, on August 29th 2009 04:57 pm
Everybody will compare to maple, but that game is outdated and fails when it comes to pvp. Wonderking is the best of the side scrolling games.
Steelcool, on August 27th 2009 10:25 pm
Game is a lot better than maplestory, has PQs, quests are worth doing, actually points u where to train, the only problem some may find, is no known builds at this point, but closed beta 2 just ended so..
Swizzy, on August 27th 2009 09:58 am
5 minutes into the tutorial i got bored and didnt want to learn to play a different variant of maplestory.

Playing Wonderking was a great experience to me. It was one of the best games I have ever played, I liked the skills and pvp system. I like how there is bonus experience/zed from getting exp in a party. I really had a great time playing Wonderking.

Heh, I remember playing it when it first came out in Korea. It doesn't have any special features, but it's a really fun 2D game, you can craft potions, train your skills and more.
Zik, on July 4th 2009 10:44 am
It said on the website that it's being released July 9th not the 18th

This game is great! It is like playing a better maplestory! I love how it is exactly like maplestory with more jobs and that there are mounts which overpass the gaming on maplestory. The leveling on Maplestory is impossible but Wonderking is easier and the charachters are much more customized. There are also training dummies and the fighting is cool. The fact that there is a double jump is great! This is my entry.

Anybody who's played maplestory will like this one unless your some kind of loyalist. The combat system is much improved, similar classes can do more for example Wonderking archers can jump shoot whereas maplestory archers can not. The backgrounds are a lot more eye catching and skill animations are epic for a 2D side scroller. The quests are actually worth doing and the job classes have cool skills. As for grinding and leveling to achieve some sort of elitist class of player status for no other reason except to show off, well, that's there too.
