World of Kung Fu is a relatively new game and is one of the most fun fantasy MMORPGs currently available. The first time you launch the game, your updater may freeze so be sure to close the updater and restart to finish it. This occurred on several machines here at the office but was remedied by a quick relaunch. There are nine classes in World of Kung Fu and they are named after the nine weapon types: Spear, Staff, Hammer and Axe, Bow, Fist, Broadsword, Fan, Sword, and Hook. Sadly, the game provides nearly worthless class description so you’ll either go by which looks the best to you or be forced to look up how the classes differ online (check the resources section at the bottom).
This being a new game and the fact that the game has nine classes will definitely definitely result in some balance issues and some of the balance issues here are game breaking. For instance, a “Fist” will be able to kill over a dozen monsters all at once with a few AoE attacks faster than a “Bow” can slay one of the same monster. Luckily for every class, leveling is very fast paced until the mid teens so if you’re unhappy with the way your class plays, there is a low barrier to re rolling.
Surprising for a free game, World of Kung Fu offers a good variety of appearance customization. You can choose the hair style, hair color, face, and facial detail of your character. Classes have a natural difference in height to add a bit more variation, the “tank” classes are generally taller and broader while the more agile classes tend to be smaller. After character creation, you’ll find your self in the beginner town with various “talk to this NPC” quests. One of the best features in World of Kung Fu is the auto-walk feature, by double clicking on the coordinates provided in quest descriptions, your player will automatically move to the NPC. Similarly, double clicking anywhere on the mini map or the area map will trigger the auto walk. This feature is so useful that it should be in every MMORPG.
After the first batch of quests, things pick up with kill quests and quests that lead you to new areas. These quests offer significant EXP rewards and it is recommended you complete them. They will also reward you with great game features, such as pets that auto loot for you and mounts which increase your movement speed. Strangely, there is an anti-botting CAPTCHA system in the game. If the system thinks you may be botting, everyone’s favorite slanted, blurry letters and numbers will appear and you’ll have to type them in correctly within a certain amount of time or be disconnected. I have yet to encounter botters in the game, so this may be the killing blow to botter’s… or they’ll just come up with a way to beat it, only time will tell.
The early hunting areas have some pretty uninspiring enemies (white, red, blue “cloud spirits”) but things pick up later with group instances with impressive boss battles waiting at the end. This is the sort of content you’d expect from a pay-to-play game like World of Warcraft and its a pleasure seeing quality content like this in a free game. With that said, its worth mentioning the Item Mall in World of Kung Fu. Most of the items are not game breaking such as special clothing, marriage licenses, and romantic gifts. However, there are some objectionable stuff like charms that increase the player’s EXP rate by 50% or give bonus HP and stats. These items are likely to tip things in the paying players favor in PvP but the advantage is not unreasonable.
Speaking of PvP, World of Kung Fu has an open PvP environment outside of the early hunting areas and towns. Open PvP and the strengths and weaknesses of the classes will require players to actually play as teams more so then in most free games which is a welcomed change from the traditional Korean solo grind fest. World of Kung Fu is a little known new comer to the scene but it has a great game world with great game play and features. Its not a radical departure from other free to play fantasy MMORPGS so don’t expect something revolutionary. World of Kung Fu is more of an evolutionary step towards more action oriented, team based PvE and PvP in the free to play arena.

I've played this game for about 2 years. It's a real love/HATE relationship. It disappoints me so much yet it draws you back to play it some more. I would make a more detailed comment but it's 5:35am and my sugar rush is going down...
