Elves -- a staple in just about every fantasy-based MMORPG. Is it possible to make one without the pointy-eared race? Current versions of MMORPG titles may indicate "yes," but who knows what developers have planned for future updates.

Take, for example, "Runes of Magic." When the game was first released, Elves were not a playable race, but they will be soon when "Chapter II - The Elven Prophecy" releases.

Recently, developer Frogster dropped even more hints on what players can expect to see in the upcoming content update:

"In the upcoming 'Chapter II - The Elven Prophecy', the name giving elven will find their way into the game world Taborea. A widely branching background story entwines about the fairylike race with many new challenges that are going to be told in lots of new quests and new quest lines. Thus, 'Chapter II - The Elven Prophecy' will lead players into new game regions characterized by elven lore like an elven island at the shore of Ravenfell."

Neato.

In somewhat related news, if you haven't seen the first of "Global Agenda's "No Elves" trailers, I recommend doing so right now, especially if you're tired of Elves and generic cookie-cutter fantasy MMORPGs.

Note: If there's any indication of hatred towards Elves in this item, please understand that it's purely intentional. In MMORPGs, I typically play as a hardy member of the dwarven race. As we all know, it's unnatural for the two to get along.
