At E3, MMORPG publisher and developer of "MapleStory," Nexon, invited me to check out their upcoming side-scrolling MMORPG, “Dungeon Fighter Online,” at their U.S. headquarters. I took their offer, played the game, and wrote a fairly positive preview a few days later. Now, Nexon wants more than privileged journalists to play the title; they’re opening it up to the public.

From now until July 6, Nexon is accepting applications for “Dungeon Fighter’s” closed beta. As for when the closed beta actually begins, they did not say.

Interested? Head on over to the MMO's official site and click on the “Login to apply for closed beta” banner on the left side of the screen. Don't have a "Dungeon Fighter Online" account to login to? You can create one by clicking "Play now!" on our "Dungeon Fighter Online" page.

“The title is played on a 2D plane and players are tasked with moving from either right to left, or vice versa, eliminating any and all opposition. What separates "MapleStory" from arcade classics like "Final Fight," "Streets of Rage," and "Double Dragon," is the lack of the all important Y-axis. In those games, players can move their avatars up and down in addition to left and right. In "Dungeon Fighter Online," though, that element is added back to the mix.

That's right: "Dungeon Fighter Online" is like a free-to-play MMO version of your favorite beat 'em ups.
