Spellborn bankrupt, TCoS will become free-to-play
Spellborn Works BV -- part of the Spellborn Works NV, the company that owns "The Chronicles of Spellborn" -- has declared bankruptcy. Obviously, something isn't fully right at Spellborn Works, and the latest announcement from Acclaim and Frogster Asia proves the point.
Starting in 2010, "The Chronicles of Spellborn" will transition from a freemium subscription-based MMORPG to a free-to-play MMORPG.
This change will mean that the game will lose its monthly fee, and focus more on item shops and other optional purchases. In addition, Acclaim claims that there will be "several enhancements" to the current game.
So what does this mean for all of you playing Spellborn Works' MMORPG -- especially in Europe? Right now, there's a whole lot of uncertainty for the state of its servers. One thing is known, though: until the MMORPG is re-launched in 2010, players will need to keep paying subscription fees to play.
In other words, if you're a fan of "Spellborn" or want to try it out, you're going to have to pay money each month to play an MMORPG that will soon be free, and will no longer have bug fixes or other added content.
What a deal!

*Update*: It appears now that the main development for "The Chronicles of Spellborn" will be performed in Korea, leaving the Dutch developers who created the game in a state of limbo.

The only thing realy that horrable about the characters is the hair and thats nothing to not give the game a chance over. This game is something new something fresh and people dont like that witch is sad. People complane about WoW they say they want something new but in reality they just want a lame ass clone of WoW because its what they have become used to and are way too lazy to learn something new. Even in wow their so lazy its a grind up to 80 noone does instances on the slow annoying crawl to 60 and when u get there noone wants to do heroics all they wanna do is 25 man raids witch are easyer then 10 man btw for the pure fact theirs more heals more tanks exc. Theirs some rare few who actualy wanna game that u need skill for something truely new but all you lazy peons ruin games like this for us. Look how people slander warhammer warhammer would be a good game if it had the numbers to do anything but because of wow people got so lazy they refuzed to do low level pq's and what not warr wasnt about the grind to 40 it was about the ride along the way to 40. So i hope they dont change this game too much maybe spruce up little things like hair but stick to the true original idea for those of us who would like something new!

Hiro! Just check what Acclame did with 9 Dragons... They ignore the community. Known bugs around a year. PvP totally destroyed. And Item Mall-Item Mall-Item Mall...

man this game looks fun, i really wish i could play it xD - 12 gigs to download? to much for my 20gig bandwidth. Anyways, i hope they keep everything the same and just change the servers or something like that. Oh, and they dont overpower the items in the item shop.

I don't get what you mean, Nightpool. He isn't saying that now that the game is free there won't be updates. He's saying that they stopped working on the game and are now working on a new version to launch in 2010. Until that comes out, they won't be releasing updates or fixes for Chronicles of Spellborn. That's what Acclaim said in their news, at least.

many games do this. Archlord did it, sowrd of the new world did it and both are still making lots of money. The F2P model works better in this day and age. This is a massive game that will keep many busy for a long time. Content updates and patches are in every f2p..im guessing who ever did this "review/news" hasnt seen many hours in game.

I'm really feeling sorry for the guys as Spellborn is one of the best MMORPGs that I've ever played

Poster, I don't think that's accurate at all. F2P games do have patches and content expansions.

I tried it a long time ago, but free accounts had too many limits... It was sad, because it's a nice mmorpg... maybe i will join again.

spellborn is a good MMORPG but the controls for the game are crappy and selecting NPC's is annoying and alot of other annoying aspects to the way you have to play the game.. Spellborn could be good, but its just too annoying

Here is my idea of the game. The game has a great customization. Sure there are no wep/armor stats but who cares? Just shows how much skill is needed. And the stats are nice because thanks to them, you can have a paladin and it won't even be called a paladin! [Those that play, Wrathguard stats are 1 body and 3 mind/ 2&2/ 3&1 which ever you prefer]
