By now, most of you probably already know that Spellborn Works BV has gone bankrupt, and that "The Chronicles of Spellborn" will become a free-to-play MMORPG starting in 2010.

The only questions that remained, are what will happen to the Dutch creators of the game, and with the European players.

Unfortunately, one of my sources at Acclaim has shared some news for the fate of "Spellborn's" developers. According to them, since "Spellborn" will be developed into a free-to-play MMORPG, the most qualified team to handle development of the game is Frogster Asia, located in -- you guessed it -- Korea.

In the official press release distributed by Acclaim, they mention that Spellborn Works and Frogster Asia will undergo a joint venture, but it's sounding like Frogster Asia is going to fly solo on this one.

The fact that a Korean studio is going to take over development of "Spellborn" doesn't bode well for its Dutch developers, and that makes me think it's not looking good for its European players.

Unless someone else steps in and picks up the rights for the MMORPG, by the end of 2009 "The Chronicles of Spellborn" may very well be resting in piece across the European continent.
