Six years ago, Linden Labs went live with "Second Life" – the virtual world known by many for how intellectual property is addressed, the surrounding hype, and flying uh…body parts. Now, its sixth birthday has come and gone (June 23), and Linden Labs plans to celebrate the occasion with a multitude of events.

The official announcement says over 400 are planned, but I’m not listing all of them. If you want that information, hit up either the event blog or the wiki. Just know this:

All festivities will end on June 30 following a closing speech from Philip Linden.

On a sidenote: I would like to share this entry from the virtual world's event blog:

“After a very late night (that was in fact a very early morning in the end), and then a few hours sleep, we had a pretty flawless opening ceremony, and then the gates opened!

It was quite amazing to see the grid fill up, and yes it was/is laggy, but isn’t that the sign of popularity?”

Yes, blog proprietor. It could be a sign of popularity, but it could also be a sign that you need to upgrade your server to something better than a rig running using two old potatoes and a gerbil for power.
